Comcast Business Announces $28 Million Investment to Expand Fiber-Rich Broadband Network

For the Beltway Region, Comcast Business announced today that it will invest $28 million over the course of two years in order to significantly expand its advanced and fiber-rich network. The Beltway Region includes Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington, DC, and West Virginia. The buildout includes investments of $13 million in 2020 and $15 million in projects currently underway or planned for 2021, which will enable nearly 7,000 additional businesses to benefit from high-performance Ethernet, internet, and advanced voice solutions.

Upon completion of this project, Comcast Business will have invested more than $110 million in area network expansions since 2015, resulting in benefits for nearly 35,000 of the region's largest businesses and organizations.

Small and medium-sized businesses will benefit from network speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps), while larger enterprises will benefit from speeds of up to 100 Gbps. This will allow businesses to quickly bring new customers online with advanced services such as fast business Wi-Fi for employees and guests, cybersecurity solutions, 4G LTE backup, and business TV. Business owners will now have access to a comprehensive portfolio of Comcast Business products and services to help them meet their day-to-day needs, such as connecting multiple sites or branch locations, connecting offices to third-party data centers, and implementing cloud-based solutions.

According to Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Brian Ball, "Comcast's infrastructure investment in Virginia benefits our business community and helps the Commonwealth attract new businesses."

The following is a statement from Ed Rowan, senior director of Comcast's Beltway Region's Business Sales Operations: "Network and carrier diversity are becoming increasingly important for economic development and transformation, and the ability to provide both is becoming increasingly important. This all revolves around connectivity, which is now more important than ever as businesses expand and prepare for the next phase of their development. Our network expansions throughout Comcast's Beltway Region are the latest example of the significant technology investments we've made to increase the availability of our multi-Gigabit Ethernet services, which we've made to increase the availability of our multi-Gigabit Ethernet services. These investments will aid in the development of the regional economy, the transformation of our local communities, and the better meeting of the region's next-generation capacity requirements."
