In case you are one of those using Apple Watch for running activities, then you already know that it’s a nice way to keep track of your distance, time, pace, and heart rate. However, sometimes if you are tired, you might want to stop for a short period time, and forget to pause your workouts, which eventually give you inaccurate results.

If your Watch workout continues to work while you are not running, then it will give you inaccurate result. Of course, it’s not every time you are going to remember to pause your Watch workouts. Therefore, you need a way to pause your Watch workouts when you stopped running.

Luckily, you can now automatically make your Watch to pause your workout when you stop moving, and resume it when you start moving again.

The procedure to do this is simple and it does not need any third party app. Here’s how to pause running workouts automatically on Apple Watch.

Open the Watch app on your iPhone

Scroll down and tap on “Workout”.

On the Workout screen, tap on “Running Auto Pause” toggle button to toggle it ON.

That’s all. From the workout will pause when you stop running or moving. In case you keep moving, even walking, it will continue to run without any hitch. So whenever your workout pauses, your Apple Watch will notify you by tapping your wrist and then workout readout will dim slightly, showing “Paused” at the top of the control screen.

Once you start moving again, your Apple Watch will again tap your wrist and resume your workout. You can also tap “Resume” on the control screen to resume the workouts manually.

Very simple, isn’t it? Now you don’t have to start worrying about forgetting to pause your workout when resting for some short time.
