Do you have an Ecobee3 Thermostat? Do you know you can lock your Ecobee3 with a PIN code so that no one will be able to play with it or adjust the temperature except those that knows the PIN.

Generally, a non-smart thermostat usually kept in a locked enclosure, like you see in most firms. However, with smart thermostats like the Ecobee3 or Nest, you can simply use a passcode to lock it and prevent unauthorized users.

Well you can't set this up from the Ecobee3 app on your phone (like you can on Nest app) but can only set this up from the thermostat itself. Nevertheless, it’s extremely easy to do and won't take your time.

So we'll discuss on how to protect your Ecobee3 Thermostat with a Passcode and like I said earlier this will be done on your Ecobee3 thermostat

So tap on the menu button at the bottom-left corner of the screen on the Ecobee3 thermostat.

So scroll down and tap on “Settings” button.

Then tap on “Access Control” button.

Then tap on “Enable Security Code”.

Now type in a four-digit passcode you would like to use to lock the Ecobee3 thermostat .

After entering in the passcode, tap on “Save” button at the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Then select all of the features that will need a passcode in order to change them. You can just tap on “All” to lock down the thermostat totally.

So tap on the back arrow at the top-left corner to go back to the main screen.

So at this point, the passcode will be enabled, and you’ll have to make sure the thermostat has gone into standby mode before it will activate or you can just restart it. If it’s in standby mode, it will show the indoor temperature and a smaller icon below that denoting the outdoor temperature.

Henceforth, you will have to provide the passcode before you can gain access to it.
