What is Stateful Proxy Server?

Stateful proxy server retains information of every request and response that it receives. It can use the saved information in future, if required. It can retransmit the request if it does not receive a response from the other side.

1. Stateful proxies retain information about the request after it has been sent; hence they can connect the response with some internal state. In other words, stateful proxies preserve transaction state. Stateful means transaction state, not call state.

2. Stateful proxy servers don't scale to the degree of stateless ones.

3. Stateful proxies can fork and offer services that stateless ones can't. For example, call forward busy.
