Louis Pasteur
About 100 years ago, this French microbiologist called Louis Pasteur developed the "germ theory" of disease which proposed that diseases are spread by living germs, or bacteria. He also found ways to stop wine and beer from becoming infected. He showed that food spoils because of microorganisms and invented pasteurization, which was originally used to prevent wine and beer from souring. He also came up with a rabies vaccine. He then invented a process where bacteria could be removed by boiling and then cooling liquid
