Oyetoke Tobi - Tuesday, November 15, 2016

Raise to Wake is a new Lock screen feature available in the latest iOS version which is iOS 10. It lets you to wake your phone’s screen just by picking up or raising your phone. This feature is on by default, but if you’d rather not use it, it’s simple to turn off.

In case you have iOS 10 installed on your iPhone device, you might be familiar with this feature already. You probably have discovered this feature the first time you picked up your phone after installing the update or just picking up your phone occasionally. It’s a handy and cool feature, especially if you want to look at your iPhone lock screen for notifications while doing some other things.

You don’t have to press the Home button or Power button to wake your phone’s screen if the Raise to Wake feature is enabled. You might mistakenly unlock it in iOS 10 when you press the Home button to wake the screen though, you can still wake the screen through the Power button that is if you use the speedy Touch ID feature to unlock your phone.

How to Enable the Raise to Wake feature

By default, the Raise to Wake feature is enabled on iOS 10, so you don’t have to trouble yourself. But in case the feature doesn’t work on your phone it maybe because it is turned off or you don’t know how to trigger it. If it is turned off due to some issues then you have to turn it on if you want to use it.

Open the Settings app from the Home screen menu.

Then tap on “Display & Brightness” in the Settings screen.

The “Raise to Wake” slider button should be green by default which indicates the feature is enabled. If the slider button is light grey, then the feature is disabled. So tap on the slider to turn it on.

How to Disabled Raise to Wake

In case you don’t want the screen turning on every time you pick up your phone or you don’t know how to trigger it because it’s a bit tricky if you want to make it work, you can turn off the Raise to Wake feature.

Open the Settings app from the Home screen menu.
Then tap on “Display & Brightness” in the Settings screen.

The “Raise to Wake” slider button is always green by default which indicates the feature is enabled. Just tap the slider to turn it off.
Whenever the Raise to Wake feature is off, the slider button turns light gray.

The Raise to Wake feature in iOS 10 is similar to Android’s “Ambient Display” feature, which has been available on Android for a while. So, Apple has finally added it to its iOS device.

The drawback to this feature is that it is a trick and not easy to make it work. It may sound cool to the ear “raising it to wake it up” but, in reality, it isn’t. However, we’ve got a guide that will show you some tricks you can use to trigger it.
