Oyetoke Tobi - Wednesday, October 26, 2016

The Apple tvOS 10 has the ability to control your various Smarthome devices from the Apple TV using Siri. So you don’t have to use Alexa when Siri is at your disposal.

With this, you can easily control your Smarthome devices by just using your voice and giving out some command voice to Siri. Here’s how to control your Smarthome devices with siri on the apple tv.

You need to ensure that these devices are compatible with Apple’s HomeKit platform first and that HomeKit is formally set up on the compatible devices before you can use Siri on the Apple TV to control your Smarthome devices. Most of these Smarthome devices come with HomeKit in the initial setup process when installing them for the first time. So in case this isn’t the first time of installing it, you can always head to the settings where you can set up HomeKit after the installation. And it involves scanning the code at the back of the device with your iPhone.

So once you’ve set up your Smarthome devices and HomeKit, then you’re ready to control these devices using Siri on the Apple TV.

You can simply start by holding down the Siri button on your Apple TV remote. Then say command voice like “Set the thermostat to 73” i.e. in case you want to change the temperature on your HomeKit-enabled smart thermostat. You can also say “Turn on Living Room lights” if you have the Philips Hue lights set up.

Now if you want to command Siri to turn the lights ON in any room with the Philip Hue light, so you’ll need to customize the HomeKit and set up different rooms. So you can do this with the Smarthome Philip Hue app itself or inside the new Home app on iOS 10 devices.

And Siri will always give you feedbacks whenever a task is completed and will show the action on the screen.

Once you have your Smarthome devices set up with HomeKit, you can control your Smarthome devices using Siri on the Apple TV. So there’s nothing special you need to set up separately on your Apple TV in order make Siri work with your Smarthome devices.
