When to Start Software Testing?

Oyetoke Tobi - Thursday, March 17, 2016

Starting software testing earlier reduces the cost and time to rework and produce error-free software that is delivered to the client or end user. Though in Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), testing can be started from the Requirements Gathering phase and continued till the consumption of the software. It depends on the development model that is being applied. An example is the Waterfall model, whereby proper testing is conducted in the testing stage; although in the incremental model, testing is performed at the end of every increase/looping and the whole application is tested at the end.

Below are the stages whereby software testing is taken place:

1. For the period of the requirement gathering stage, the analysis and confirmation of requirements are also regarded as testing.

2. Reexamining the design in the design phase with the objective to improve the design is also regarded as testing.
3. Testing is being conducted by a developer on conclusion of the code is also considered as testing.
