What is Functional Testing in Software Testing?

Functional testing is a type of black-box testing which is based on the qualifications of the software that is to be tested. The application is tested by providing input and then the results are analyzed that need to verify the functionality it was proposed for. Functional testing of a software is done on a complete, incorporated system to evaluate the system's compliance with its particular requirements.

Below are steps involved while conducting functional test for an application:

1. The purpose of the functionality that the proposed application is meant to carry out.

2. The formation of test data based on the qualifications of the application.

3. The result based on the test data and the qualifications of the application.

4. The writing of test scenarios and the implementation of test cases.

5. The similarity of actual and expected results based on the performed test cases.
