What is Data Independence?

Leke Oyetoke - Sunday, March 20, 2016

What is Data Independence?Data Independence can be defined as the resistance or immunity of user applications to changes made in the definition, structure and organization of data.

Database system generally contains lots of data in addition to users’ data. For instance, it stores and saves data about data, recognized as metadata, to locate and retrieve data easily. It is quite complex to change or update a set of metadata once it is stored and saved in the database. However as a DBMS expands, it needs to change over time to suit the requirements of the users. If the whole data is reliant, it would become a boring and highly difficult job.
